Christmas Morning with the Kellers
That brings us to Christmas morning enjoying a homemade breakfast with my Dad and Ginny and my sister Kasey. Here is me and my sister checking out her new keyboard that she got from Santa!
Pug Adventures at a Christmas Eve Party
AWWWWW... Rockstar got to meet one of Santa's elves named Keri (she kind of looks like my cousin of the same name!) Rockstar actually enjoyed chasing the little cotton balls on the tips of her shoes! Actually, this is Rockstar's last ditch chance to persuade Santa or anyone close to him that he has been a good boy, they better not ask me my opinion.
And then Rockstar bothered, I mean visited, everyone else in the family. My uncle Kenny didnt have any food in his hand, so as you can see, Rockstar wasnt very interested. Who he is interested in that you can not see in this picture is my uncle Ray, who kept letting Rockstar grab items off his plate (on accident, ofcourse!)
Oh, Aunt Susan has food so there is Rockstar thinking that he is going to get some goodies. Unfortunately, Aunt Susan knows better than to fall for that cutie-pututie pug charm!
Poor Uncle Mike is going to be covered in hair. Are you sure that you did not give him any food? He really seems to like you Uncle Mike!
Out to Dinner with My New York Girls!
Here is Joanna and Selina enjoying the Caribbean styled wraps that I got for them! What goof balls! Below is Ida looking pretty as always!
Kelly liked her card and shared my commentswith her new beau, Chris!
And dinner was great! Obviously, I have enjoyed a little too much wine at this point and am laughing hysterically - look how red my face is!
It was so good to see the girls for Christmas, I know that everyone enjoyed time with their family and had happy and healthy Holiday. We are trying to make plans for us to get together very soon.... Miami here we come!
Me and A Pug at the St Kitts Airport
So here we are and our trip to New York is about to begin. At this point, not many people know that Rockstar is coming home to New York for Christmas, it is a big surprise for the Polancos who were thinking that I was the most horrible mommy for leaving my pug in the Carribbean, boy they will be surprised when it is I and Rockstar that show up at their door...
Here we are an hour before boarding, Rockstar is yawning a huge yawn... Hope that he is tired, we have 8 hours of travel ahead and it will be much easier if he sleeps...
One pill and 45 minutes later we areready to board and Rockstar is ready to say "let me out!" already!
The flight ended up being fine, Rockstar behaved superbly, and on our second flight there was another dog that was a bit of a barker, and Rockstar was so good the entire time, I was ssosososososososososo proud.

A Little Trip tp Nevis with Friends
Vacation from school just could not be called a vacation without some actual relaxing, and I have been trying to fit it in as much as possible. Today, I went to Nevis, the sister island to St Kitts, with some friends and their visiting family. A ferry picked us up in St Kitts and brought us over to Nevis. Here I am enjoying the view of the peninsula from the water.

This is the Queen Mary II, a cruise ship that was in port today as we were leaving St Kitts. I think that it is the biggest cruise ship in the world, but I may be mistaken.
One ferry ride and a bumpy taxi service later and we arrived at Sunshine's, a cute little beach bar that is frequented by lots and lots of celebrities. There are pictures of everyone from Oprah to John Travolta that have visited. It is rumored that Kelly Rippa and Will Smith will be there for New Years, maybe Ill have to stop by and check it out!
We had lunch at Sunshines, and I actually ordered fish!! Mahi mahi to be exact and it was great! couldnt have loved it more! I am just proud that I actually ordered it instead of chicken and I was rewarded when I really liked it! Eat your heart out big Mondo!
Lastly, we walked down the beach to the Four Seasons, which is one of the best resorts in the Caribbean! It truly was beautiful, a very small resort, but cozy and you could tell by the courteous way that we were greeted that the service was great. Maybe one day I will stay there!
Well truly had a great day enjoying the island life and visiting another island other than St Kitts. Back home I had to run, I had three pups waiting for me and a suitcase to pack. It is off to New York tomorrow!!!
Finally some Zoo Animals...
The man who owns the zoo that I volunteer at every Saturday is pretty strict about no one taking any pictures, for whatever reason. During break, I am there alot and the other day he was not around so I snapped some pictures. I would have taken more, but all of the settings on my camera were all messed up and the pictures were a little weird, I promise to take more after I get back from New York. Above is one of the male monkeys, there are four monkeys there with three male monkeys housed together and one female housed by herself.
Here are one of the chickens, a rooster to be more specific. Not too exotic, I know, but I will have more pictures soon!
Rockstar and His Groupies at the Pool
I have been running alot lately, but yesterday I felt like a nice long swim. Luckily, the pool at my development is fenced in and I could bring Rockstar, Millie and Lola (and the camera)!
What I was not expecting were the regular night time walk messes while I was in the pool, oh well!

One Week Until Christmas...
Lola and Millie's Crazy Antics with my Laundry...
Oh, dont the girls just look so cute, this is them last night in their angelic mode. They were sitting and watching me on the internet typing, it was kind of spooky actually. Rockstar never watches me do anything, he just falls asleep when I stop paying attention to him!
And here they are in their "not so angelic" phase of the night. It is hard to see, but the fat pug is fast asleep in the background impervious to all that occurs. Lola is standing on my clean laundry and Millie is on the floor acting all innocent. All that I did was left the room for 2 minutes to use the restroom and I come back and they are using my laundry as confetti. I had to laugh, the two of them are total clowns.

All Work and No Play...

Dog Sitting Continues...
Millie and Lola really are too cute. They are perfect friends, they are of similiar size and they are both full of energy and ready to play. But their curiosity is what makes them very interesting characters, both of them seem quite astute and want to learn more about their environments, and are quite competitive about it. Here is a picture of Lola and Millie both in Millies kennel. I have found them both in one kennel or the other several times, and it is too cute, hmmmm.... wonder what that fat pug is up to while Millie and Lola are playing?
Sleeping, of course, what else would a fat pug do? Really, Rockstar has been pretty tired lately, he has fallen into his schedule of sleeping during the day while I am at school studying, and now that I am home and he has two friends to play with he is fitting in naps whenever he can, and whenever the girls are not bothering him for long enough.
Views from the Peninsula Part II
There is Frigate Bay, the town that I live in. It is the touristy area of St Kitts where most of the hotels and such are at. My arm is pointing out Golfview, where me and Rockstar the pug live, which can be seen from up here.
Here I am in front of the glorious view of Frigate Bay. Too bad I have to be standing in front of an ugly metal road divider thingy.
And there is Nevis, St Kitts sister island in the distance. It is much smaller than St Kitts and also has a volcano, you can see it partially covered in clouds in this picture. I havent been to Nevis yet, but hear that it is a gorgeous place to visit.
Having Fun with the Dogs!
Golfview (thats where I live) should be called the Ross University Dog Park. There are so many Rossies (thats what we call fellow students) and they all have dogs! Lots of times when we are going for a walk, it is hard to not see someone. A couple of nights ago, I met up with some friends and their dogs to let our dogs play on the golf course.
Rockstar had a blast, as you can see. Connor was feeling a little bit violated, though.
And three happy girls with their three happy dogs: Nicole and Millie (I am babysitting Millie, now), Alyssa and Connor, and me and Rockstar. Why are we happy? Happy that school is done for three weeks, happy that we have such awesome dogs, happy that CHRISTMAS is coming, and generally happy about our performance this semester.

My Break - Sun, Fun and Dog Sitting

Ahhh... the good life; the beach, a tan, good food (that I dont have to cook!) and three dogs to play with. PS - took this picture myself the other day on the way home from Turtle Beach. Gorgeous cloud formations.
WWWWHHHHAAAATTTTTT?!?!?!?!? Dont worry I havent adopted any dogs, just babysitting two while I am here.

Millie is my friend Nicoles dog. She is a Kittitian mix dog who is really sweet. She has a really soft coat and cute eyes. And she loves to eat! (Sounds like a certain pug I know) I think that Millie is pretty young, but I am not sure exactly of her age. Unfortunately, she does have hip problems and limps a bit, but her twice a day medication makes that all better.

Lola you have all met before as she is a frequent guest on this blog. Lola is my neighbor, Kim's dog and she is a bundle of energy. She loves to come over my house and jump from couch to couch. Sometimes even Rockstar is a little freaked out by her energy level. She is also a young Kittitian mix ( I think that she is younger than 2) and she is such a good dog. Her and Millie get along so well, they are the perfect size for each other.

And last, but not least is my boy, Rockstar the pug. At first, Rockstar was a little weirded out by all the estrogen and energy in the house, but he is getting used to having the girls around and is romping around with them quite a bit. Rockstar is realy the odd one out, with his smooshed face and his bulging eyes, I wonder what Lola and Millie think about him?
A St Kitts Christmas
Not a Kittitian was stirring, not even the goats.
The lab coats were hung on the clothesline with care,
Hoping the formalin smell would diffuse in the air.
The students were passed out with books on their beds,
While visions of caruncles danced in their heads.
The histology slides, I had studied in vain,
Knowing slowly, but surely, they would drive me insane.
When out by the road, I heard a loud sound,
I sat up in bed and looked all around.
To the window I ran, and said “what was that?”
Then went to my closet to get my baseball bat.
And what would I see, which I found quite bazaar,
But some local guy, fast asleep in my car.
I was confused at first, but regaining my wits,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Kitts.
As he woke from his nap, caring not of my classes,
He opened the glove box, and took my sunglasses.
He stepped out of the car, and onto the street,
Then turned, and dropped a bottle onto the seat.
What was in that bottle, perhaps some magic potion?
Well, no, it turned out to be used suntan lotion.
Then just like a cheetah, he ran down the street,
Now I have no sunglasses, and my car smells like feet.
But at least now I know that I’ll get a safe tan
Next week with the sunscreen from that magical man.
And I heard him exclaim as he ran out of sight,
Merry Kittsmas to all, and to all a good night.
Cute right?? Cant take credit, it was sent around by an individual in my class.
Where's Hazel?
Poor Rockstar misses his girlfriend, Hazel. For those of you who do not know, Hazel is a 130 lb. De Bourdeaux (french mastiff) who loves Rockstar just as much as Rockstar loves her, you wouldnt believe it, but they play perfectly together and miss each other very much!
Views from the Peninsula
I captured this shot at that spot where we stopped. The way that the sun was lighting up the water looked really awesome. I am glad that it showed up as cool as it appearred.
This is the peninsula as you look out over it (with yours truly!) To get there from Frigate Bay (where I live) you have to go up this HUGE hill that I sometimes jog (ask mondo, its tough!) But the view up there is spectacular. Behing me and to the left is the Atlantic Ocean and to the right is the Caribbean Ocean. Pretty cool right?

FINALS ARE FINISHED (off to the beach)
Turtle beach here we come. We deserved it, after 6 finals and the anticipation of having our entire first semester of vet school done, we needed to relax and be served frozen daquiris on a remote beach on a tropical island.
So as soon as our final was finished (about 9 am) we packed off to the beach, Turtle Beach. Named, of course, for its fine turtle population and know for its crazy monkey population. But myself and my friends Sarah (pictured above) and Emily were only worried about the sun and the cold drinks. Here we are just relaxing at the beach. I am covering up to save my skin from the deadly sun! I reapplied twice and still got ALOT of color. Watch out all of you New York pasteys, I am coming home soon (with a tan!)
And just then, a dark cloud loomed over us. This was our view from the beach for about 20 minutes. That volcano in the distance is Nevis, and right now it looks like a dreadful place to visit. At the sight of this, most of the tourists started leaving quickly, but we are used to the weather and knew that this would pass, and it did!
And no trip to turtle beach is complete without some monkey spottings. The beach was PACKED with tourists (and a fair share of students) and so I think that the monkeys were a bit frightened away. But I hunted down some good shots for mondo.
Here is another guy up in a tree, he had spotted a tourist's lunch and was keenly staring at it.
And this is the paw print of a tame monkey that decided to use me as a standing post. There is a gentleman who has two monkeys and he uses them to make money off tourists, as he walked by, one of his monkeys decided to jump up on me and see if I was something interesting. Emily noticed the pawprint before I wiped the sand off my thigh and although we didnt catch a picture of the monkey moment, we were able to capture the pawprint on film. This film is for you, Armando, two monkeys playing. But, they were less than interested in the food that I brought for them (canned pineapple) or in coming close enough to me to get a good shot. Hopefully when Mando comes again, we will be able to see lots of monkeys having fun, well see.

So, my first semester of vet school is officially OVER! Grades are posted on Saturday so we will see how I do. I am very eager to start my second semester, but in the mean time I am plenty satisfied to enjoy my winter break as much as possible, beaching it and visiting with family...

Good Omens for Finals?
Can you see it??? It is kind of hard, I may have to go back and enlarge the picture. It is of a pirate looking ship out to sea this morning before my last final. Looked really cool from school, I am sorry that the picture does not show it more clearly.
And after our final, a rainbow appearred. To me, both where good omens almost saying "good job guys, you made it through semester number one". We'll see, final grades are posted saturday morning!

Tourist Season Has Begun...
December is when tourist season in St Kitts really starts and for someone who lives here (me!) it is quite evident. The streets in town are clogged with the obvious tourist types, prices for mundane things go UP, far more rental cars than usual, and lots of tourists walking to the beach by my house. When I am walking they are usually quite amused that I have brought my dog with me on vacation, they obviously didnt think that anyone would want to live here! When I tell them that I am going to school on this sometimes beautiful island I get a whole wonderful range of responses from "OH, that sounds nice" to "Why would you do something like that?"Anyways, I usually like to strike up conversations with the tourists, they always have interesting things to say and interesting perspectives on the island. Sometimes it feels like a fresh breath of air when someone says "Wow this island is beautiful, you are really lucky to live here." Then I can look around and honestly feel fortunate for my surroundings.
Well here are some pictures of the cruise ships coming into Port Zante last week. I took the photos from Timothy Beach and they really are pretty amazing looking.
FYI: Dont worry, I was not out at the beach alone after dark, I was with friends and Rockstar the ferocious pug was there to protect me!
12 Days Until Merry Pug-mas!
Here I have been posting random Holiday Pictures when what I should be doing is posting random pug holiday pictures!!
Here is a pug, Rockstar was unavailble for the starring role, doing what they do best, being lazy and looking damn cute doing it. Enjoy and Happy Holidays...

"What the Heck Mommy!?!"
"Tis the Season to Be Giving...

In the holiday spirit here are some of mine and Rockstar's favorite sites for giving back

All of the above sites are always in my "FAVORITE LINKS" section and can be accessed there forevermore, or you could save them in your favorites and check them out when you get a chance. Either way, the sites are a free way to show that you care and should be visited frequently.
Do you know of any other sites like these that I can add to my favorites?? Please, leave a comment and let me know of other sites that I have missed!
13 Days Until Christmas...
This one is funny because this is how we all feel during the holidays. I am sure once I am done my 7 day visit in New York I will be rolling myself back to st Kitts.Less than two weeks, I am really starting to get into the Christmas spirit now, even if I am completely surrounded with palm trees and 85 degree weather. I wish that I had brought down Rockstars Christmas stuff so that I could send out some pictures, but I wasnt exactly thinking about that when I moved down here!!
Hope that everyone is enjoying their holidays!! Mine officially start on Thursday at about 930am my time (830am EST) when I am done my last final exam!!! Cant wait!

14 Days Until Christmas
And only 3 more finals before I am finally done. Yippee!Rockstar is actually enjoying my finals schedule because I am only at school from 7 am to 10:30 am instead of the normal from 7 to 3 or 4. Even if I am sitting around all day studying, he is still getting lots more attention than during the normal school schedule. Little does he know that soon enough I will have lots of time to play and walk him!!! Looking forward to some quality time with my pug!
Happy Holidays!
Wish Me Luck on Finals!!
Well this is quite the early post, but I have to be up early and rejuvenated in order to be ready for my final at 8am. (That is 7am on the east coast, I am an hour ahead). I am eager to get this final done and over with since it is my least favorite class, nutrition. But I cant help the need to savor the moment, to relish in the fact that I am in finals of my first semester of veterinary school and in 3 days I will have finished my first semester of vet school! It is a pretty amazing feeling and I am just proud and happy for all that I have done and achieved in the last three months. Now, I just have to get through finals!
Wish me luck...
PS - How cute is rockstar by the baby palm tree?

What is Christmas Mommy?
15 Days Until Christmas...

Sixteen Days Until Christmas...

And only twelve more days until I leave for NY. Personally, I know that everyone in the northeast will hate me for this, but I hope that it is snowing, I even wish for a blizzard, sure it is nice to have warm weather and palm trees, but it is just not the holidays without some snow.
Krista's Snow Related To Do List While In New York
1. Make a snow angel
2. Make a snow man
3. Before 1 and 2, find some appropriate clothes to wear ( I do not think that flip flops and tank tops will be sufficient! )
4. Throw a snowball at Mondo! (shh!)
So last Wednesday was my friend, Melissa's, Birthday, shes the one in the pink with the green necklace. It must be really tough always having your birthday in the middle of studying for finals. We had just finished our anatomy lab final and we all needed a bit of a break before jumping on top of the books again. So we went down to the Shiggidy Shack, a nice little place on the beach with good daiquiris and (I hear) good mahi-mahi! From left to right the girls in this picture are Leigh, Christina, Bernie, Melissa (Bday girl), and Emily.
Of course, I could not have a daiquiri without sharing some with Rockstar. It was strawberry, and I never knew that he lived strawberries, but he was really excited about trying some. The girls got a kick out of it and thought it was hilarious. Just another moment in the life of Krista and Rockstar, thats all.
This is Rockstar on the beach with us meeting Tessa, Melissa's dog. Rocks and her get along well, but there is just a lack of chemistry between them, see the video below:

Birthday Cards Keep Rolling In...

Yep, that is right, almost a month after my birthday and cards keep a-coming. It is no big deal for me, I have come to the conclusion that the whole postage thing to the caribbean has taken after its culture, laid back in nature. Some people never got packages for entire semesters, so I feel happy to have even recieved my letters.
And of course, today I received my third pug card and I am very grateful to have everyone think of me and know me well enough to get me something with a pug on it. As you all may know one day I am going to frame my entire pug card collection and decorate a room of my imaginary house with them. Mondo is not too keen on this idea, but we will push him over to the 'pug side' in the next couple of years.....
More Specifically, thankyou nicky and tania, selina, and dad, ginny, and kasey for my adorable cards, they really brightened my day and my living room!!
We Should Be Studying...

Check out Pictures of My Friend Cory....
Congratulations Cory!
http://lifeonstkitts.blogspot.com/2006/12/ross-university-awards-ceremony.html
Some Old Pictures....
This is what I do when the pug and I are missing people from back home, we just go look at all of the great pictures that we have. This is a picture of me and Julie (in white) and Pam (in pink and black). I, of course, am the goofy looking one in the center who is probably half in the bag right now since it is my surprise going away party.
This is me and my girlfriend Tara a couple of weeks before I left New York. Tara is getting married this spring and I am trying to convince her and her fiancee to honey moon in St Kitts. I do get good rates at the Marriott!!!
Ah, what a good looking crew. Me, Tania (blue) and Amanda (coral) look the cutest, but they must be pretty good guys to bag such bodacious girls (LOL). Anyways, this was a picture taken of Armando and his brothers and us girls about a week before I left. I really miss getting dressed up! Hope that we have some occasion to do so when I am home...
At the Beach...
Of course he is panting, we live in St Kitts. Really, rockstar loves the beach, this is the second time this week that I have walked him to Timothy Beach for his walk instead of the boring run to Angelus and back. It is nice to walk on the beach and feel like a tourist. And the tourists love Rockstar. As well as the locals. About once a week, someone asks me how much he costs and whether or not they can breed him. I am pretty scared about ransom requests for Rockstar, so I take a firm hold of the leash and lie through my teeth, these are a couple of my favorites:"This dog, no he isnt purebreed, he is a mutt"
"Oh, no, I got him for free from a rescue on the internet, you can get these kinds of dogs for free all of the time"
"He bites, please stand back."
And then most of them leave me alone, I guess that I could tell them that he is fixed, but most of the locals here have no idea what that is, and when you explain how I had his testicles removed they die of laughter. Pretty strange huh?
Here is Rockstar enjoying the sand and the run of the beach. He thinks that he likes the water, but gets pretty scared last minute when the waves come in. Who knows, maybe by the time that I leave, he will be a swimming pug?
And once again, only in St Kitts can you see something so surreal. This is a pig off in the distance, I dared no get any closer with Rockstar around. This is how farmers raise their animals here, they let their animals roam free and then drive around and collect them once a week. It is kind of a big deal when you are driving and there are goats and pigs and the whole nine yards in the road. Today on the way home from school, two baby piglets ran across the street about 100yards in front of my car. Sorry that I did not have the ninja reflexes to get my camera... maybe next time.

A Quick Run and Then....
All we want to do is sleep. Of course that is all that rockstar ever wants to do and right now he is just happy to have a sleeping partner. But of course, my post run nap runs too long and I have to wake up to take a shower and start another arduous night of studying for finals..."mommy, just five more minutes. I need my beauty sleep!"

A Pug and Pizza Night...
Ahhhh... that puggy face never ceases to make me smile, even if I do see it every day! Tonight, I needed a little break from studying for finals so we called some friends in the neighborhood to go order pizza at a local pizza place called PJ's.
At my friend Emily's house, Rockstar made himself right at home at the dinner table. I love this picture because it just goes to show you how spoiled rockstar is (and how tan I am!!)
Here he is again, just taking in the fame and glory that is involved with being a pug!
What a beggar! Good thing that Emily and her roommates werent too prim and proper, they would have thought that having a pug at the table was just atrocious. Emily has two pugs back home, so she knows what's up with the mommy-baby pug relationship.Rockstar also made a new friend at Emily's house, a cat named Louis was so interested to see a pug nosed pup, that he kept peeping out to stare at Rockstar, even though ROckstar was running around the house like a maniac.
Deep in Midst of Finals....
Welcome to finals. I am coming to the realization that I am going to be tested on everything that we have learned in the past 3 months... Pretty crazy. On top of that, the holiday season is starting and the last thing that I want to think about are the innervations of the extraocular muscles (its by the abducent and ocularmotor nerves!!) when I could be thinking about how soon I will be seeing snow and snowflakes and blow up santa's on lawns and the whole nine yards. The weather is another constant distraction because I would much rather be on the beach (see Below)
But Finals they will a come. And when they do Ill be ready (or as ready as Ill ever be) and when I am done with them I will be 10% finished with Veterinary school (can you believe it??)
