Lulu the Tortoise At My House Over Break

So at school we have a herd of 10 tortoises of various ages. They really are the cutest things ever and they have a great life being loved by vet students. One of the tortoises is suffering from a nasty case of shell rot, though. I think it is because she likes to sit in the mud, as that is where I found her today. But I have set up a tortoise isolation unit at my house, where she can stay dry and clean (and out of the mud) over break.

Heres Lulu and her little hiding box. She just ate her food (ravenously) and is now getting ready for bed. She will be in good hands over break with Midge (my new hallmate) who is going to feed her and medicate her and LOVE her all day.

"Dont Worry," Lulu says, "I will be all fixed up and feeling better soon!"

Oopslaan DOESNT Miss Rockstar

So, the house is pretty quite right now. Rockstar went home to the US early with my friend Jessica. I am bringing Oopslaan home so Rocks got to go home EARLY!! Even though it is just a couple of days, I miss him already!! Being at the beach with all the dogs, I keep looking for him...

But, Oopslaan is LOVING it. Most of her day is watching Rockstar and making sure that he doesnt get within a 5 foot radius of her, so she is pretty mellow these days. We will see how she will fair tomorrow on her flight, and how she will be when we get to COLD Maine and she meets her new Mommy!!

Beaching it with Lindsey

A whole week of finals behind us, a night of partying and relaxing with friends, now it is time to get a tan so when I go home everyone doesnt make fun of me.

I mean, I do live in the Caribbean, but honestly, the entire week before I come home I am sitting in my house studying for 10 hours a day... I cannot be expected to have the perfect tan when I come home... It is just not fair.

Well, I have been working on it.

Lindsey enjoying the sand and sun with me...

After a nice day at the beach we headed over to the beach for some dinner. I caught this excellent sunset as we chowed down. I realized, this is the Caribbean that everyone loves, sunsets and beaches... It would be nice to be able to appreciate it all the time, but every now and again is fine as well.

FINALS ARE OVER... Now it is time to go OUT!

Four finals can take more out of you then you can imagine. But, I guess if Vet school was easy then everyone would be a vet.

But finals are FINALLY over now... We have taken our naps, and we need to relax... So out to the beach we go.

Thank god for good friends, What would a crazy girl in vet school do without tons of emotional support and even more LAUGHS?!? Here I am with Jen, Aden, and Lindsey from left to right. Well, the night basically turned out to be talking about our upcoming vacations and lots of group pictures. Here I am with Jen (left) and Midge (right).
But in reality it is a sad and a happy time. The end of the semester is a time for goodbyes, and this semester I had to say goodbye to Kim and Lola who are moving on to their clinic year at Auburn! They both will be missed, but with the closing of one door is the opening of another. I have a new hallmate, who is not a replacement for Kim, but something new. Midge is going to be my hallmate now, and we are sure to have lots of fun (did I mention she has pugs??)

Miss you Kim.. Kiss LOLA!!

BUD LIGHT SALUTES ME... Finally!

Bud Light Salutes College Student

Today we salute you stressed out college student during exam week. As you sit in your lonely cubical in the library, doped up on Starbucks & Aderol, you think to yourself, "am I ever going to need to know this stuff in life?" The distractions are tempting, and you have suddenly diagnosed yourself with ADD. I'm sure by now you know exactly what everyone is doing because you have checked your buddy list and FaceBook 800 times. Christmas break is just days away, and your Prozac prescription will be in tomorrow. So crack open an ice cold bud light after that last exam, college student, because for most of us, Christmas will be spent in rehab.

Studying for Finals Begins...

Ok, so this is a staged picture, but to me it seemed the the perfect "studying for vet school finals" shot with a lovebird checking my work from above... Dorky I know!

But recently, studying has not been complete without Indian food from the local restaurant Star of India (I would insert a link here for them, but I am pretty sure without looking that restaurants in St Kitts do not invest in a website!) After having my samosa chatt, of course my hungry critters wanted to sample the rest... Now this is the closest that Rockstar and Oopslaan have ever been, and really, have you ever met a cat so motivated by food???

First final was this AM (our only lab final) Wish me luck for the rest!!

Thankyou for my Birthday Card Patrice

Babysitting Elijah the Lovebird

Introducing Elijah, my friend Jen's Lovebird. Dont worry, I have not adopted yet another animal. He is only over my house for the long weekend as Jen is away for a wedding. Lovebirds are mini parrots and this one is super sweet with a great personality, even if he has a couple of quirks. For one, he only eats his green food which makes his poo, well green (GROSS) and he likes to wake up as early as possible and tweet for food...

In fact the house has become somewhat of a cacophony at feeding times, with Rockstar barking annoyingly, Oopslaan meowing in her whiney way and Elijah twittering away about who knows?? At least the tortoises are quiet!!

Babysitting was alot of fun for me and Oopslaan (she hasnt taken her eyes off of him)!

Here is Oopslaan day 1 after I got Elijah. She has never swatted at the cage or jumped on it, but she has an intense stare that scares me enough to NEVER leave them in the same room together alone. No Oopslaan, you may not have a bite!!

When Lola came over and realized that I had another animal she was excited too!! She already races over when we open the doors to lood for the tortoises...

What does Rockstar think of the whole thing?? Well in a word, he is oblivious!! He has no idea that there is a bird in the house and as long as he gets his walk, his boo boo voice talk and his food he is HAPPY... Ahhh... the life of a pug (especially this one!)
